Another brilliant summers day at Bradfield. Was planning for a 11am launch as Neil, but late as normal at 12 with loads of water in the Stour. HW was 2pm so had time. 5 others there 1 x fin, 3 wind foil. 2 x wing foil.
Still haven't set up and used the Starboard foil race kit in earnest, as not enough wind on the few attempts. Today did look dire, with a 14kts forecast from the east, but Lord James turned up and said it will be OK!
Rigged 9.3 North S type cam sail set so full it could hardly rotate, with the Patrick foil race board. Set up the 1100 front wing and 500 stab with the 95 + fuse. I cant work out why that set up lifts me in 12+ knots, yet the 900 race Fwing and 255 stab with 115+ fuse at +1, refuse to in this same 12kts.
As a heavy weight, wind foiling is as frustrating as fin, as I cannot use small kit. Watch the wing foilers and that's even more frustrating in light winds. Def giving that a miss.
The wind was very light for 45 mins, close prob 10kts and Neil and I had a good work out wallowing to Wrabness, then he pumped at least 6/8 massive pump on a gust and was flying nicely. James looked to be struggling also, so didn't bother to pump. 5 mins later the wind picked up to F4 prob as forecast, and gave use a absolutely brilliant flat water session, and I didn't have to pump! Just bear off and move back up the board went. The Patrik board is a nice piece of kit, my only complaint is the front foot strap option is very out board, so getting in it to pump is awkward for me, so had to make it very wide. Lots of reaching across the river, flat out, although only made 19.21 kts, due the freeride setup. A 500 stab / 1100 front is a lot of drag set a +1. Wing foilers got going at last, but the fin board struggled. I need to get to venues early so I can try the race 115+ fuse, set up with the freeride wings to see if I can get going in 12kts consistently. Almost made a foil gybe, but it touched down. 30 mins after High water, I began to dehydrate, so called it a day, with plenty of wind and water left. Covered 16.4nm. The Galaxy watch 4 classic said 1074 cals, great, av HR 117 ok but peaked a few times at 174 beats, not so good. The GW-60 watch showed several runs at 18/19kts, and I wasn't really happy with my stance for speed as way too upright and nervous, only railing it nicely a couple of times leaning out. Need to foil more....
